Begin Volunteer Registration process

If you are new to Special Olympics and would like more information on the volunteer roles available, please complete the Volunteer Interest Form so that we can help you find the volunteer role that best fits your interests. Note: Depending on the volunteer role you are interested in, there may be additional steps needed for your registration. 

Special Olympics Delaware asks all new volunteers to attend a Volunteer Orientation to get information on the volunteer roles available and to learn about the organization. 

Class A and B Volunteers' certification expires three (3) years from the date of his/her background check.

CLASS A -Volunteers that attend practice and work with athletes on a consistent basis

Head coach, assistant coach, Unified partner, practice volunteer

Volunteers (including Unified partners) ages 18 and older

1. Complete the online volunteer application. (you will be asked to create a username and password AND attach a headshot photo of yourself.) Tips for completing the online volunteer application

2. Complete the online Protective Behaviors Training.

3. The Special Olympics Delaware office will complete a background check. 

4. Read and understand the SODE Code of Conduct and the SODE Volunteer Participation Policies.

 

Volunteers ages 16 and 17 (including Unified partners) 

1. Complete the online volunteer application. (you will be asked to create a username and password AND attach a headshot photo of yourself.) Tips for completing the online volunteer application

2. Please complete two (2) reference letters. The reference letters can NOT be completed by a parent or relative. Please fax the reference letters to 302-831-3483 or scan and email to info@sode.org.

3. Read and understand the SODE Code of Conduct and the SODE Volunteer Participation Policies.

 

Volunteers ages 15 and younger (including Unified partners)

1. Download and complete the Youth Volunteer Form.

2. Please fax the form to 302-831-3483 or scan and email to info@sode.org. Forms can also be mailed to Special Olympics Delaware, 619 S. College Ave., Newark, DE 19716.

 

CLASS B -Event Volunteers handling money or Volunteers selected to be on an event planning committee

Committee Members and Event Volunteers that will be handling money

Volunteers ages 18 and older must complete the online volunteer application (you will be asked to create a username and password) and the office will complete a background check. Tips for completing the online volunteer application

Volunteers ages 16 & 17 must complete the online volunteer application AND complete two (2) reference letters. The reference letters can NOT be completed by a parent or relative. CLASS C- "One-Day" Event Volunteers
