Special Olympics athletes, U.S. program leaders, Unified Sports partners, and family members from 44 states and the District of Columbia converged on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., on February 12 for the annual Capitol Hill Day.

Jillian Matthews, of the Kent Wild Kats, and her parents, Cindy and Bill, along with SODE executive director Ann Grunert, represented Delaware. They met with Senators Chris Coons and Tom Carper, and Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, inviting them to partner with Special Olympics Delaware to achieve the goals of expanding Unified Sports® and Unified Champion Schools® programming, and to end health care disparities and discrimination against roughly 1 percent of the U.S. population with intellectual disabilities (ID) by supporting inclusive health initiatives.
