New Athletes

If you are brand new to Special Olympics, please contact Carly Thompson at cthom@udel.edu or 302-831-3479. 

Eligibility: Persons age two (2)* and above who are considered to have an intellectual disability and Persons who have closely related developmental disabilities such as those who have functional limitations, both in general learning and in adaptive skills such as recreation, work, independent living, self-direction, or self-care.

Children ages 2 through 7 participate in The Special Olympics Young Athletes™ program.

Individuals with profound disabilities can participate in the Special Olympics Motor Activities Training Program (MATP), developed by physical educators, physical therapists and recreation therapists. The MATP emphasizes training and participation rather than competition.

Athlete Registration Information: Each athlete must have a Special Olympics Delaware Athlete Physical Form on file before participating in any practice or competition. Athlete Physical Forms can be found on the FORMS page or by contacting the Special Olympics Delaware office at 302-831-4653 or info@sode.org.  Once completed, Athlete Physical Forms can be mailed to the Special Olympics Delaware office at 619 S. College Ave., Newark, DE 19716 or scanned and emailed to info@sode.org. Once your Athlete Form has been recevied by the Special Olympics Delaware office, you will be contacted with further information.
