Volunteer Requirements

PLEASE READ BEFORE beginning the volunteer registration process: Please be sure that you are logged into the SODE website as yourself using the username and password you created.
At the top of the screen you will see a "logged-in as" icon. If it is not you, log out and log in using the username and password you created (or if you have not created one, do so).
Otherwise any information you complete will over-ride the information of whoever is logged into the SODE website if it is not you.
2. If you are volunteering as a Unified Partner or Peer Partner, click here for requirements.

Class A Volunteers -- This includes head coaches, assistant coaches, team volunteers, committee members and any other person volunteering in a role for more than one day on a more consistent basis.

Class A volunteers must complete the following three requirements BEFORE beginning the volunteer experience:

1. Complete the online volunteer application. When doing so, be sure that someone else is not already logged in to the SODE website on the computer you are using. You will be asked to become a member of the website (there is no fee to do so) and the process also includes a background screening process that the office will handle based on the information you supply on the volunteer form.

Note for volunteers ages 20 and younger: Occasionally when we run a background check on someone 16-20 years of age we get a "blank" because that person has not lived "on their own" long enough. Because of this, volunteer applicants 20 years of age and younger MUST complete two (2) reference letters. Please fax the reference letters to 302-831-3483.

NOTE: You will need the following three items in order to successfully complete the online form: driver's license (if applicable), social security number, and head shot/passport-like photo of yourself in JPEG format you can attach to the form (if you are unable to download a photo for any reason please contact Mark Wise at 302-831-4669 or mwise@udel.edu BEFORE filling out the application).

2. Complete the online Protective Behaviors training.

3. Complete the online Team Volunteer Orientation training.

NOTE: To successfully complete the online applicaton and the two online trainings you must have JavaScript enabled on your computer. Most computers have this and it is enabled. Below are enabling instructions for the three most popular browsers.

Class B (Day-of) Volunteers -- This includes people volunteering for one day at an event, either individually or as a company or organization representative.

Class B volunteers will register for events as "day-of" volunteers either in advance through their company or organization, online through the SODE website, or in person at the event. When doing so they will be asked to fill out specific personal information (name, address, phone number, e-mail, etc.) and sign a waiver.

For more information about either volunteer opportunity, contact Mark Wise at 302-831-4669 or mwise@udel.edu.
