Cycling Event

Dover Air Force Base hosts the annual Cycling Event, held in late September or early October at the DAFB Museum, located off Route 9 on the south side of the base.

Delaware cyclists are joined by athletes from around the region to compete in races ranging from 500 meters to 20 kilometers, including tandems at certain distances.

History and Facts

The Dover Air Force Base began hosting the cycling event in 2009. Prior to that it was held at the Lum's Pond State Park campground.
Cycling was first offered at the 1987 Special Olympics Summer World Games in Indiana.
In 2007, over 65,000 athletes competed in cycling worldwide.
