Basketball Team Tournament

 


The Basketball Team Tournament, sponsored by 21st Century Insurance, is a two-day event comprised of school and community teams from throughout the state. The tournament takes place at the University of Delaware Field House and Bob Carpenter Center, located on the UD athetic complex in Newark.

Teams are divisioned based on age and ability. Preliminary evaluations take place at the tournament site for community teams, while schools are evaluated at individual practices prior to the tournament.

Directions to the UD Athletic Complex

 

Levels of Competition

Traditional: 5 v 5 full-court competition.

Unified: 5 v 5 full-court competition with three Special Olympics athletes and two Unified Partners on each team.

Half-court: 5 v 5 half-court competition (Unified with four athletes and one partner).

Team Skills: Geared for those teams not yet ready to play offense and defense. Players pass, catch and shoot, receiving points for each and then comparing scores to other team skills teams' totals.
