
The Special Olympics Young Athletes program, sponsored by the Macy's Foundation, is an innovative sports play program for children ages 2 through 7 designed to introduce young children with intellectual disabilities, their peers and their families to the world of Special Olympics.
The program includes a series of developmentally appropriate activities designed specifically for young children and their family members.
Young Athletes programs take place primarily in schools, however some community programs offer them as well. Athletes practice various basic movement and motor skills and then demonstrate them at a culminating event, either at their school or an existing SODE event.
