Spread the Word to End the Word (STWTETW) is an ongoing effort by Special Olympics and Best Buddies to raise the consciousness of society about the demeaning and hurtful effects of the word “retard(ed),” and to encourage people to pledge to stop using the R-word. Our efforts are strengthened by collaborating with the DSA (Down Syndrome Association), DFRC (Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with Cognitive disAbilities), and other Delaware organizations dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Last year's event resulted in over 7,000 signatures pledging respect in high schools and colleges all around Delaware.
Get ready to educate, motivate, and activate your schools! Although the nationwide date is 03.07.12, your campaign can be done anytime in March or anytime during the year. Can't get to your school's event? Take the pledge online at www.r-word.org and ask your friends to do the same!
