THANK-YOU TRUCKERS!
The World’s Largest Truck Convoy® fund-raising event is a celebration of the trucking industry and its support of Special Olympics. It is a unique one-day celebration in which law enforcement makes special dispensation and escorts a convoy of trucks through Kent and Sussex County towns.

The 2008 Truck Convoy, Delaware's 6th, was a huge success with 98 trucks raising nearly $40,000. Delaware's 2009 leg of the Truck Convoy will take place on Saturday, October 3, starting at 10:30 a.m. in Harrington, and begins and ends at the Delaware State Fairgrounds. Truckers meet at the fair grounds and are escorted by law enforcement officers on a 28-mile route through scenic Southern Delaware, including a parade in downtown Harrington, before returning to the fairgrounds for a festival and celebration. Click here for a flyer about the 2009 Truck Convoy.
To participate, truckers (or their companies) must complete a registration packet and make a $100 donation. All trucks entering the convoy must be of 10-GVW or larger, but please note that hazardous materials are not permitted.
There are various opportunities for Special Olympics families to enjoy the Truch Convoy, including riding "shotgun" in the cab of one of the trucks. For more information about this and the post-event festival, click here.
The Truck Convoy was founded in 2001 by Norm Schneiderhan, a Corporal with the Orange County (FL) Sheriff’s Department. Schneiderhan, whose family is involved with the trucking industry, was inspired by the powerful impact Special Olympics has had on his life through his participation in the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Originally just a fundraiser for Special Olympics Florida, the convoy has grown into a national movement with 26 states and four Canadian provinces participating.
